U.S. Ambassador to the UN Criticizes the Taliban’s Authoritarian Misogyny in Afghanistan

September 21, 2024

Zan News

Zan News: Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, strongly criticized the Taliban’s policies towards Afghan women and girls, stating that "the Taliban's complete embrace of authoritarian misogyny is deeply concerning."

In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield added that the Taliban must immediately end their "misogynistic" practices against women.

She emphasized that the normalization of relations with the Taliban depends on their actions, particularly in regard to their treatment of women and girls.

These criticisms are being raised while Afghan women are being deprived of their most basic rights by the Taliban. Since their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban have issued around 80 restrictive decrees against women.
