Zan News: Two Afghan women journalists, Waslat Zahi Khan, a former reporter for the 8am newspaper, and Zarghona Salehi, a reporter for Pajhwok News Agency, have been named winners of the fourth round of the "Ladli for Gender Sensitivity" award in 2024.
The two journalists received the award on Wednesday (October 9).
The award was established by "Population First," a Mumbai, India-based social organization that has been promoting gender sensitivity in the media for over two decades.
In addition to these two Afghan journalists, 12 other journalists from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and the Maldives are also on the list of winners of this award.
It is worth mentioning that the award ceremony was held on October 9, 2023, in Mumbai, India.
The winning of these two Afghan women journalists comes at a time when women journalists in Afghanistan under Taliban rule face severe restrictions.
Since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021, more than 90% of women journalists have become unemployed, and widespread obstacles have been placed in the way of women's media activities.
