Taliban Flogged a Woman and Ten Men in Nangarhar

Zan News: The Taliban's Supreme Court has announced that a woman and ten men were publicly flogged in Nangarhar province.

According to a statement released today, Thursday, by the court, these individuals were flogged with 30 to 39 lashes each, on charges of "adultery, sodomy, and unlawful relations."

The statement further clarified that the sentences were issued by the city court, the district court of Surkhrod, and the Taliban's district court in Ghani Khel, Nangarhar.

The flogging ceremony was attended by Taliban officials from various courts and local residents.

It is worth mentioning that in the past month, the Taliban have publicly flogged 85 individuals in various parts of the country.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Taliban also executed a punishment of retaliation (Qisas) on one individual in the central sports stadium of Paktia's provincial capital, Gardez.

In November 2022, Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada issued a decree for the implementation of Sharia punishments, including flogging, retaliation, and amputation. Following this order, the Taliban carried out the first public flogging on November 19 of that year, when 19 women and men were flogged in Takhar province. Since then, hundreds of people have been subjected to corporal punishment across various provinces.

This comes despite repeated calls from the United Nations and other international human rights organizations for the Taliban to cease these forms of corporal punishment.
