Suicide of a Midwifery Student in Kabul Due to Taliban's Closure of Health Institutes
December 24, 2024
Zan News
Zan News: Local sources have reported that a 19-year-old midwifery student in Kabul has committed suicide due to the Taliban's closure of health institutes' doors.
Sources said on Monday (December 23) that this girl, named Safia, hanged herself three days ago in the Panjsad Family area of Kabul city.
According to sources, Safia committed suicide due to "despair over continuing education." She was originally from Panjshir province and was the daughter of a retired general from the previous regime.
This incident occurs as Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, on December 3, issued a decree closing the doors of health institutes to girls across the country.
United Nations agencies had previously reported that the Taliban's denial of education to girls has led to an increase in mental health issues and depression among them.
