Movement of Women’s Lantern of Freedom: Real Spring Will Come with Women’s Liberation

March 20, 2025

Zan News

Zan News: As Nowruz 1404 approaches, the Movement of Afghanistan Women’s Lantern of Freedom held a protest rally against the Taliban’s systematic suppression of women in Afghanistan. Demonstrators at the gathering emphasized that Nowruz symbolizes renewal and hope, but for Afghan women, a winter of “oppression and darkness” persists.

According to the protesters, while people worldwide celebrate the new solar year, Afghan women remain deprived of their most basic human rights—education, work, and participation in society.

They said: “Real spring will arrive only when Afghan women enjoy the rights to education, work, and free living.”

Members of the movement also urged the United Nations and international institutions to refuse recognition of the Taliban and take concrete actions to halt crimes against Afghan women. Another demand raised at the rally was the prosecution of the Taliban’s crimes in international courts.
