Zan News: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced in its latest report that over the past year, it has created more than 700 job opportunities for women and girls across Afghanistan and has also supported women-led businesses.
The organization, by sharing the story of Nargis, a female head of household, has emphasized its support for women's businesses in Afghanistan.
According to the report, from June 2023 to August 2023, the IOM, through its "Economic Resilience" program, created 2212 jobs in Afghanistan, of which 731 were allocated to women. Additionally, with the support of the UN Trust Fund for Afghanistan, equipment was provided to 23 local businesses, including 16 women-led businesses.
The IOM has also supported 37 businesses during this period to participate in national and international exhibitions.
This report comes at a time when the Taliban has banned women from working in various sectors, including UN offices in Afghanistan. However, despite all the restrictions, Afghan women are striving to support their families by creating small and medium-sized businesses.
