ICC Creates Fund and Educational Program to Support Afghan Women Cricket Players
April 14, 2025
Zan News
Zan News: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the establishment of a fund and an educational program to support Afghan women cricket players who have been forced into exile due to the harsh political and security conditions in Afghanistan.
The organization stated on Sunday, April 13, that a special fund has been created to provide direct financial assistance to Afghan women cricket players, and an educational program for their professional development is also being designed.
According to this plan, Afghan women cricket players will have access to advanced coaching facilities, sports equipment, and specialized consultancy services.
JI Shah, President of the ICC, said that the organization is committed to promoting inclusivity and providing equal opportunities for all cricket players.
This program will be implemented in collaboration with the Cricket Councils of India, England, and Australia.
It is noteworthy that many Afghan women cricket players who held official contracts in 2020 have taken refuge in Australia following the severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban.
In the wake of these restrictions, several countries, including Australia and England, have announced that they will only play against the Afghanistan team within the framework of official ICC competitions and will refrain from hosting bilateral matches.
