Zan News
Zan News: The Syrian interim government, led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, has appointed Maysaa Sabrine as the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria.
According to Reuters, this is the first time in Syria’s history that a woman has been given this position. Maysaa Sabrine previously served as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank and now succeeds Mohammed Issam Hazime, who was appointed to the role by Bashar al-Assad in 2021.
Sabrine is also the second woman in the Syrian interim government to attain a senior governmental position. Before her, Aisha Dabbas was appointed as the Director of the Women’s Affairs Office in this government.
Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham and its allied rebel groups, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government, have declared their commitment to upholding women’s rights.
Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the Taliban—who have widely celebrated Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham's successes in Syria—have imposed extensive restrictions on women’s rights, depriving them of the right to work and education.
