Zan News: Naseer Ahmad Faiq, the Acting Representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations, has called on the international community to use all available legal mechanisms to hold the Taliban accountable for their human rights violations.

Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday (September 18), Faiq specifically urged the use of international legal mechanisms to hold the Taliban accountable for systematic gender-based violence and their "gender apartheid" policies against Afghan women and girls.

Faiq emphasized, "We must act decisively, with unity and determination, to reverse this destructive path and restore hope to the millions in Afghanistan who continue to suffer." He added that this is not only a moral imperative but a responsibility that members of the international community must fulfill.

The Acting Representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations also addressed the issue of Afghan refugees, urging neighboring countries to treat them according to international laws. He called on the global community to increase support for Afghan refugees and seek long-term solutions that provide them with "security, dignity, and opportunity."

The UN Security Council meeting, held in New York, focused on the situation in Afghanistan. During the session, Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, presented a report on the country’s situation. She noted that the Taliban’s enactment of the law on the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice has severely undermined direct engagement with the group.
