Complete Ban on Broadcasting Women's Voices on Radio in Kandahar by the Taliban
March 18, 2025
Zan News
Zan News: The Afghanistan Journalists Center says that the Taliban have completely banned the broadcasting of women's voices on radio stations in Kandahar province in a new directive.
According to a press release issued by the center on Tuesday (March 18), the Taliban's Intelligence and Culture Directorate in Kandahar issued this order simultaneously with "National Journalists Day."
In addition, the Taliban have instructed the media to henceforth address Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group's leader, as "Amir al-Mu'minin."
It is worth noting that after Helmand, Kandahar is the second province where the broadcasting of women's voices in the media has been completely banned.
According to the Afghanistan Journalists Center, there is currently no operating television network in Kandahar, and most visual media have been reduced to radio stations. The center has condemned the new Taliban restriction.
This comes as the Taliban, following their renewed takeover of Afghanistan, have imposed extensive restrictions on the media and journalists, specifically targeting female reporters.
