Zan News: Suela Janina, Albania’s representative to the United Nations, stated that Afghan women and girls continue to face systematic discrimination and violence, and the international community must take practical steps to change their situation.
On Saturday (March 15), during a meeting titled “From New York to Afghanistan,” she said: “Solidarity alone is not enough. Afghan women demand concrete actions to transform the reality of their lives.”
Janina emphasized that Albania has demonstrated its solidarity with Afghan women through specific actions.
The Albanian representative to the UN stressed that the international community must not remain silent in the face of the Taliban’s oppressive policies and should adopt practical measures to support Afghan women. Criticizing the global approach toward Afghanistan, she added: “But in Afghanistan, I must say with deep regret that we have failed.”
This comes as the Taliban, since seizing control of Afghanistan, have imposed severe restrictions, depriving women and girls of their rights to education, work, and participation in society. Despite repeated concerns from international organizations, no effective action has been taken to improve the situation of Afghan women and girls.
