About Us

Zan TV is Afghanistan’s first women-led media network, founded in 2017 to amplify the voices of Afghan women. In a country where women were long denied the right to speak publicly, Zan TV broke barriers by training and hiring women as journalists, producers, and storytellers.

Zan TV gives women the mic — to lead, inspire, and be heard.

Empowering Afghan Women Through Media

Zan TV is Afghanistan’s first By Women, For Women media network, founded in 2017 in Kabul. Created to amplify the voices of Afghan women in a male-dominated media landscape, Zan TV quickly became a groundbreaking platform for women’s empowerment, advocacy, and visibility.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: to give women the mic, not only to report but to lead, inspire, and create change. Through journalism, storytelling, and media production, we challenge gender norms, highlight women’s achievements, and confront issues of violence, discrimination, and injustice.

Even in exile, Zan TV continues to operate, producing bold, informative, and culturally relevant content focused on rights, education, health, political participation, and the lived experiences of women.

Our Story

Zan TV was launched during a time of great transformation for Afghan women. From the very beginning, we trained and hired women in roles traditionally closed to them, such as reporters, editors, producers, and anchors, setting a new standard for gender equality in Afghan media.

Despite the political changes in 2021 and the subsequent shutdown of our Kabul office, our commitment never wavered. Today, we operate through digital platforms, social media, and global partnerships to continue our mission of resistance, empowerment, and storytelling.
